Bellingham Technical College is establishing a pool for the current 2019-2020 academic year for positions in the Food Service Department such as: Food Service Workers for cashiering and food preparation.
 
These are temporary, hourly assignments. Hours are not guaranteed and assignments are based on the needs of the department.  Work schedule is generally during the Monday through Friday workweek, 2-5 hours per day, up to 15 hours per week. 

• All positions require possession of, or eligible for, a Food Handlers permit. (In Whatcom County, the Health Department offers the training & test online at www.foodworkercard.wa.gov.  It takes about an hour and cost is $10);
• All positions report to the Director of Enterprise Services, with additional direction from the Food Service Manager/Chef.
 Position Duties & Responsibilities:
Deli/Grill Cashier/Prep   - $12.47 per hour on July 1, 2019. Effective January 1, 2020, the hourly rate will be $13.50 per hour with increase to WA State Minimum Wage.
Earns paid sick leave in accordance with Washington State law. No additional benefits.
**Assignment of duties will be done based on experience**
- Assembly of salads, sandwiches, desserts and specials;
- Market deli counter, hot foods line & salad bar coordination;
- Set-up of dining and service areas;
- Dishwashing, restocking and sanitation;
- Perform clean-up activities;
- Cashier;
- Operate kitchen equipment;
- Perform related duties as required.

Hours: Between 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Cashier and kitchen experience preferred but not required.

Deli/Grill Cook   - $14.82 per hour on July 1, 2019. Earns paid sick leave in accordance with Washington State law. No additional benefits.
**Assignment of duties will be done based on experience**
- Prepares and cooks vegetables, fruits, meats, soups, and sauces; prepares salads; desserts, and beverages;
- Cleans kitchen area; washes utensils and equipment; checks and stores food and kitchen supplies; keeps simple records; assists in preparing menus;
- Prepares meat, fish and fowl by baking, broiling, boiling, or frying, etc., according to standard recipes, menus, or verbal instructions;
- Operates cooking and kitchen equipment;
- May function as lead cook or an assistant cook depending on meals being prepared (i.e. breakfast, lunch, dinner);
- Adheres to standards of personal hygiene, food handling, sanitation, and safety precautions;
- Performs other work as assigned or required.

Hours: Between 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Additional evening and weekend hours as needed.

Catering experience a plus but not required.

Condition of Employment:
Finalist(s) in position handling cash will be subject to a pre-employment background check and employment is contingent on passing a criminal history background check satisfactory to the college.

Physical Work Environment:
Physically perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation to include, but not be limited to: working in an environment that requires operating equipment/machinery where reaching high and stooping low, bending and twisting, and manual dexterity are necessary functions.  Requires the ability to lift and carry on a regular basis: tables, chairs, and other items weighing as much as fifty pounds.  Requires being mobile on your feet 100% of the assigned shift; working with strong cleaning agents and hot water are also required.
