Bellingham Technical College invites applications for a non-tenure track, quarterly, part-time adjunct position during the 2019-20 academic year.  The assignment can be in Fall, Winter,and Spring quarter.

The successful candidate will be expected to establish a successful and supportive learning environment for a diverse college student population with a wide-range of backgrounds and experiences.

The teaching schedule will vary based on student and college needs and is expected to include instructional strategies that use in-person, simulation, and online techniques. Instruction will include practical projects for students in addition to individual labs.
Adjunct positions are part-time, quarterly and temporary and employment for this position is contingent on adequate enrollment. 
 Position Duties & Responsibilities:
The instructor will:
  • Teach first-year and/or second-year electronics courses; both classroom theory and hands-on lab instruction, to assist students in developing knowledge and skills required of electronics technicians. Instruction will include practical projects for students in addition to individual labs;
  • Effectively deliver, develop, revise, and teach classroom and lab curriculum;
  • Apply necessary components of math, human relations, communications, and cultural competence as embedded soft skills in the technical curriculum;
  • Develop and maintain appropriate lab equipment and environment for training;
  • Keep current with industrial practices and technology.

 Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering;
  • Experience working with microcontroller system (Arduino, ARMS or raspberry pi), PLC, robotic, and wireless communication;
  • Programming experience with C/C++, assembler language is a plus;
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex concepts and model problem-solving strategies for students;
  • Ability to work with diverse student populations.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering;
  • Emerging and clean technology such as; Nano, solar and fuel cell;
  • Be able to teach some of the first and second year University transfer courses.

 Supplemental Information:

Compensation:        
Adjunct salaries will be determined according to the current negotiated salary schedule.  No additional benefits.  These courses are typically 5 credit, 55 hours,and are currently paid (effective September 1, 2019) at $2,934.25 per 5 credit course. (Rate of pay includes payment for extra duties required for the teaching, prep-time, meetings, office hours, and professional functions associated with this assignment).  Work schedule is generally during the 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. workday, three times a week.  Specific teaching assignments will be determined upon hire. Additional 5% compensation for doctoral degree.
