The Applications Specialist position is a technical position responsible for providing application support, troubleshooting and minor development, where appropriate. This position works with other Technology Operations Team members to meet customer needs by supporting existing applications, integrating new applications, recommending process improvements, Training end users on current and new system functions and troubleshooting data and/or infrastructure issues relevant to application support and use.

Highline Public Schools serves approximately 19,000 students in the communities of Burien, Des Moines, Normandy Park, SeaTac, Boulevard Park and White Center Heights in Washington State. Major Programmatic Responsibilities (Oversight, Leadership, Policy-level Decision-Making): ? None. 2. Major Operational Responsibilities (Day-to-Day tasks, Planning, Judgment): ? Answer calls related to enterprise applications; initiate trouble tickets; document problems and resolve issues. ? Assist with installation, maintenance, and upgrades of applications in development and production. ? Provide first point of contact for enterprise applications. ? Monitor and assist with problem resolution of applications and networking related to application usage. ? Prepare IT Helpdesk documentation; ensure documentation is current and meets standards.

APPLICATIONS SPECIALIST (DoTS) ? Maintain confidentiality of information processed through the department. ? Maintain professional competence, knowledge and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities. ? Plan, organize and support the use of application software related to problem resolution, training and support. ? Provide quality assurance review and testing of application systems/programs to ensure compliance with specifications and requirements. ? Provide technical assistance to less experienced personnel in the resolution of system related problems. 3. Legal & Safety Compliance (Federal, State, District, Collective Bargaining Agreements): ? Supports the District’s policies for appropriate web and e-mail use as defined by CIPA (Children’s Internet Protection Act) and COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act) compliance regulations. ? Supports the secure use of district electronic records for FERPA (Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act) compliance. 4. Supervision ? None 5. Training: ? Train school personnel in the use of application software; participate in and conduct technical training programs; determine training objectives; and write training programs including outlines, handouts, and laboratory exercises. ? Schedule appropriate on-going training opportunities for Helpdesk staff. ? Creates and updates troubleshooting documentation and installation/support procedures. ? Trains IT staff on new procedures and functions. ? Trains district staff on the use of new enterprise software enhancements. 6. Communications/District Representation: ? Establishes and maintains relationships with District staff related to job responsibility. ? Improves staff and community communication in the area of technology. ? Communicates status of systems to principals, directors, and tech contacts. ? Represents district at various state-wide meetings and participates in state-wide decisions. 7. Budgetary Authority: ? None. 8. Technology: ? Supports solutions for district-wide implementation. ? Expected to be an avid technological user in the district. ? Moderate knowledge of Microsoft and Internet technologies. ? Understands and uses common office and enterprise applications regularly. 9. Support: ? Supports implementation of enterprise services as assigned by the Director of Technology Services. ? Assists District representatives in the research and implementation of enterprise software. ? Assists Department of Technology Services staff in troubleshooting enterprise systems. 10. Professional Development: ? Attends training, conferences, vendor presentations, district meetings and other activities as needed for professional development. 11. Other Duties: ? : Education and Experience Voc/Tech or AA degree in a Technology related field rdTwo years of experience supporting applications using Microsoft technologies, 3 party applications, in-house developed applications and the Web One year of experience using and supporting illuminate GUI and Back-end technologies One year of experience with data extraction and loading Two years of experience using Web-based technologies ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Experience supporting enterprise environments and solutions Experience using and applying Internet technologies

Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Technology Experience working in a K-12 service and support organization
