Job Description

RI International Evaluation and Treatment facility is actively recruiting for Pool (Per Diem) - RN/Psychiatric.  Located at 2150 Freeman Rd. East, Fife, WA 98424.

RI International's Evaluation and Treatment Unit in Fife, WA is a 16-bed facility providing mental health support to residents of Pierce County as well as the rest of the state of WA. 

The Registered Nurse works closely with the medical and psychiatric nurse practitioners, the mental health professionals, the discharge planners, and a team of peer support specialists and behavioral health technicians in providing counseling and medication management for up to 16 guests experiencing mental health crises. Regular duties of the RN focus on medication management, admissions, discharges, therapeutic conversations, and documentation.

Occasional duties may also include arranging for prescriptions to be filled, ordering labs, drawing blood, bandaging superficial wounds, arranging transfers to and from the hospital, and supporting guests during emotional outbursts. 

Summary of Job:

Oversees the medical, psychiatric, substance abuse and nursing care of agency participants and provides leadership during particular shift to ensure a no force first environment that supports the Recovery Pathways. Uses Recovery Coaching to maximize the opportunity to create recovery partnerships and a recovery environment.  Promotes a No-Force-First environment that supports the Recovery Pathways. Acts as an advocate for the needs and rights of every person.

Essential Job Functions

1. Provides, coordinates and supervises the nursing services for designated shift including staff assignments related to nursing services and safety in the facility.
2. In conjunction with the Recovery Services Administrator, assures that the delivery of nursing care meets licensing regulations an accreditation standards
3. Assures the availability of medical and nursing supplies and equipment. Monitors the safety and effectiveness of equipment in accordance with agency policy
4. Completes and/or reviews of all required reports such as:

  1. Incidents reports
  2. Infection control reports
  3. Medication errors
  4. Adverse drug reactions
  5. Safety Intervention documentation

5. In partnership with the person being served, develops a recovery service plan using Recovery Coaching to engage each participant in his or her individual recovery journey.
6. Assists participants in identifying their hopes and dreams and the solutions they are seeking by using the Recovery Coaching process to develop and record an individualized Recovery and Wellness plan
7. Ensures completion of designated assessments of all guests brought to the facility developing plans and recovery solutions in partnership with the participant
8. Documents information and service provided in electronic data base assuring continuity of the service record and as a tool for communication with other team members
9. Provides appropriate treatment and makes appropriate dispositions and referrals in consultation with the team in accordance with agency policy.
10. Supervises/or provides health care including all required medical/nursing treatments and guest monitoring.
11. Ensures /or provides various recovery activities according to each person’s individual recovery services plan.
12. Administers medication following agency’s medication protocol.
13. Supervises special diet requirements for guests as needed
14. Initiates and/or ensures appropriate response to all medical emergencies in accordance with agency medical protocols and agency procedures.
15. Oversees safety intervention procedures as appropriate to program
16. Ensures that accident investigation/event and workers compensation documentation regarding incidents that occur on their shift are completed within company timelines.
17. Communicates complaints and incidents to supervisory personnel in completing require documentation.

  1. Documents relevant and required information and services provided in the identified service record (electronic or otherwise) assuring continuity of care as a tool for communication with other team members.
  2. Maintain and observe all HIPAA regulations that apply.
  3. Provide timely, quality and accurate documentation in accordance with program standards.

Education, Licenses and Experience

  1. Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. (BSN preferred);
  2. Valid WA State RN license.
  3. Experience with mental health, emergency department, or substance abuse preferred; but will train the right person.

 

Additional Requirements, Certifications and Qualifications

  1. Must have a current Healthcare Provider CPR Certification
  2. Completion of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Training
  3. Completion of Therapeutic Options training as needed.
  4. Completion of HIV/Aids Training Certification (7 hours)
  5. Completion of Suicide Prevention Training (6 hours)
  6. May be required to pass pre-placement physical
  7. Must have TB test clearance
  8. Will be required to pass the Washington State Patrol Background Check  

If driving required (by assignment)

  1. Must possess a valid WA Drivers license, must be at least 25 years of age to operate company vehicle;
  2. Must meet the requirements in the Agency’s Driver Policy.

Working Conditions

Works in general office environment and behavioral health clinical areas. Some risk involved in the event people being served have challenges with control which is mitigated by team training in verbal de-escalation skills. Must possess visual and audio skills to complete job duties. Schedule may include long hours and travel throughout geographic region.

The physical requirements described herein are representative of those which must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this job. Continuous standing; walking; handling; finger dexterity, eye-hand-foot coordination; use of corrected vision; depth perception; wide field of vision; color vision; use of auditory, olfactory and tactile senses. Frequent bending over; stooping, kneeling; crouching; pushing; pulling; sitting; reaching; climbing/balancing on a step stool to reach supplies/equipment in cabinets; climbing stairs; carrying up to 25 pounds. Occasional crawling; running; pushing up to 250 pounds; pulling up to 250 pounds; lifting up to 50 pounds.
