    NV5 is recruiting for a Health Physicist to support Hanford with special emphasis in External Dosimetry.

    This position will assure the protection of the health and safety of DOE and Hanford Site workers and the public, and to demonstrate compliance with applicable laws, DOE directives, and legally-binding agreements. The Hanford Site has numerous radiologically hazardous sites and facilities, and this position is integral to maintaining a safe operating environment.

    Responsibilities

    • B.S. degree in Health Physics or a related discipline
    • CHP preferred
    • 8 years of progressively responsible experience in radiological health and safety, dosimetry, or a related field, or a M.S. degree and 5 years of relevant experience, or a PhD and 3 years’ experience
    • Experienced professional in applied radiation dosimetry who is knowledgeable in the design and operation of internal and external dosimetry and dosimetry records programs similar to that maintained at Hanford
    • Experience managing DOE or comparable projects to meet regulatory and quality assurance requirements
    • Experience implementing field dosimetry and dosimetry operations, responding to worker concerns about internal or external radiation exposure, and performing dose assessments
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required
    • Ability to direct work of others, track performance, provide just feedback, and develop dosimetry operations specialists
    • Ability to explain dose concepts and health effects to various audiences ranging from workers with some radiation worker training to managers and supervisors
    • Expertise using personal computers, application software (e.g. Word, Excel), and navigating the Internet
    • Two years of Hanford Site experience desired
    • US Citizenship required

    Responsibilities:
    The Health Physicist Subject Matter Expert (SME) in dosimetry is responsible for the technical direction, management, and implementation of Hanford prime contractor dosimetry programs, dosimetry related technical basis documents, and support to dosimetry records in accordance with applicable regulations (10 CFR Part 835) and the needs of the Hanford prime contractor in support of their radiological control programs.


    The Health Physicist SME in dosimetry provides monitoring and evaluation of workers for internal and external exposure to radioactive material and ensures compliance with all Hanford dosimetry requirements. The work scope includes assessing internal and external dose, and serving as a single-point contact for dosimetry assistance. Internal and external dosimetry provides personnel, extremity, environmental, and internal dosimetry capabilities to the Hanford prime contractor.


    The Health Physicist SME in dosimetry should be a Senior Health Physicist, preferably CHP, who provides analysis and advice to Hanford Site Clients regarding internal and external dosimetry, radiological records, and actual and potential exposures to radiation.
