Job Summary:

This job is responsible to the Imaging Manager and is proficient in managing operations/staff/resources of department. Knowledgeable and proficient in technical operations of assigned department. Knowledgeable of daily departmental operations and maintains effective working relationship with internal and external customers.

People: Provide effective leadership by coordinating and integrating services within their department, with other departments and with the hospital's primary functions.

Manage department human resources by: determining qualifications, competence and performance expectations; implementing and monitoring staffing plans; providing orientation, in-service training and continuing education of all persons in the department and applying policies/procedures pertaining to human resources management.

Service: Manage the environment (of care) by developing, implementing and monitoring processes to reduce and control environmental hazards and risks; preventing accidents and injuries and maintaining safe conditions for patients, staff and visitors. May be expected to present medical staff quality review information at medical staff quality/department meetings as appropriate.

May be expected to assist with direct patient care as appropriate.

Properly administers contrast materials associated with imaging procedures that are within the scope of practice as prescribed by a physician or in approved Radiology protocol.

Quality: Continuously assess and improve the department's performance by designing operational processes, monitoring performance through data, analyzing the data, implementing sustainable performance improvement, and participating in multi-disciplinary inter-departmental PI activities.

Manage information by providing information systems and data management for department operations and performance improvement.

May work with physicians, departments and clinical groups to obtain needed data/information to facilitate quality review, then develop specific action plans, as appropriate.

Finance: Manage departmental budget including processes to monitor operational and capital costs.

Growth: Implement policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of the services. Participates in continuing education to maintain license/certification as appropriate. Keeps current with hospital, accreditation, regulatory and medical staff requirements in order to update policies and procedures as needed.

Performs other duties as assigned.


Education: AS in Imaging Field required and/or Bachelor's degree.

Experience: Minimum 3 years healthcare experience. Radiology and Supervisory experience preferred.

Number and Type of Employees Supervised: May supervise 10 or more employees.

Licensure, Registry or Certification Required: Must be certified in primary modality or obtain certification within 12 months of hire date. Multimodality technologists must be certified in two modalities or must obtain certification in primary and secondary modalities within 12 months of transfer or hire date. Current SCQRSA license required. Current BLS (Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers) required prior to start date directly through the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, or the military. (To register: Blended Learning or In Person BLS through the American Red Cross; or Classroom or Skills Session BLS through the American Heart Association. Certification must include an in-person skills session.)

Special Training: Must be knowledgeable with department regulatory requirements including JCAHO and DHEC standards. Must be able to identify performance improvement opportunities and develop action plans to address quality assurance issues. Computer skills required, Interpersonal and budgetary skills preferred.
